Alter-Places x Mochvara (Zagreb Workshop)
During this workshop, we explored critical elements of strategic renewal, sustainability, and knowledge transfer specifically within Alternative Cultural Places (ACPs).
Our discussions covered various dimensions of renewal, starting with the more visible process of renewing the physical environment. This included the restoration, renovation, or repurposing of spaces to enhance functionality, sustainability, and accessibility. Beyond the physical, we explored how ACPs can undertake strategic renewal—revisiting and refreshing their attributes, activities, values, and visions to drive sustainable growth / degrowth and create long-term impact for communities and within urban areas.
Additionally, we addressed the vital role of tacit knowledge in ACPs. Tacit knowledge, which is non-codified and rooted in personal experience, is essential for the survival and growth of these organizations. This workshop delved into the complexities of transferring this knowledge across generations, ensuring both organizational resilience and continued engagement from cultural workers.
This meeting has been an insightful exploration of how ACPs can evolve sustainably, while safeguarding their unique values, as we explored how ACPs can navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that come with these renewal processes.
